Musings of the Day
Wow, I haven't updated on a lot of events, it seems. Anyways, before I start, I want to give a big shout-out to ~Melkyrion. He gave me another year of premium membership. I was already grateful for the first year, but omg thank you so much. Now I have to update a lot more, hahaha. I'll do my best to improve on my cosplays and show you pretty pictures XD Thank you so much Simen!
Elf Fantasy Fair and Japanmarkt
Gonna try to keep this short since I have a lot of BRS updates incoming. I attended the Elf Fantasy Fair for the ... fifth time I guess? My Ookami outfit wasn't really done yet but oh well. Did the same as usual, walked around, got photographed, got hungry and then goofed around with friends. Here's a picture made by the awesomelicious Kyman Cheng:
I added some details to the kimono when I went to Japanmarkt in Leiden. I still lacked the ears and the face markings, but I'll save that for some other time. Japanmarkt was like a social gathering: it was amazing to see some friends again and to get to know some of my fellow cosplayers better. I always love to hear progress stories from other people
Now on to the 'big' cosplay of this year: Strength from Black Rock Shooter. I've been working on this project for little under a year now with ~Yuzukiko Kaoru Li as Black Rock Shooter, ~moekke Anne Moekke as Black Gold Saw, ~IlunaNeko Ashley as Dead Master, ~Hime-chan93 Jiyu as Chariot and later on we recruited Roxanne as White Rock Shooter. We'd decided to enter the cosplay competition on Saturday with a BRS act! (Sorry if you've already read this, but most of the next part is copy-pasted from my thank-you speech on Facebook)
Friday I put on my Angel Miku cosplay again, but one of the strings of my wings broke off.. and my headphone kept slipping off my face XD We were supposed to have our rehearsal at 15:00, but since Altima (Japanese band) didn't show up for their rehearsal from 11:00 till 13:00, they took our spot and we had to do our rehearsal at 11:00 on Saturday. We did, however, rehearse a bit at the very back of the stage while Altima was busy in the front. In the evening we worked hard on finishing our props (mine were FINALLY done) after which we went to visit the prom which actually wasn't a prom at all lol. So we just hung out with Chris Cheng and Kai Fong at the karaoke room but unfortunately the Pokémon Theme Song was removed from the setlist :'c
Then the dreaded day came. Elise still had to finish her Chariot props and Koen was still painting some spots on the sword while we were in the car. We were in time for the rehearsal thankfully, but it was a very chaotic day. We kept losing things and stuff kept breaking so we spent our first hours at the cosplay repair center (we found the paint, but unfortunately there weren't any brushes to use the paint). A big thank-you to Koen, Mark and Mark (I'm gonna call you team KMM from now on) for being our propslaves that day.. I felt so sorry for you XD Also to Areki Yoshida for sacrificing his breaks for purse duty.. we couldn't have done this without you guys!
This picture says it all.
We had a quick photoshoot with Vien Nguyen since we were in a hurry to get to the cosplay lounge for the judging.. but they turned out great! After the judging I had like, half an hour to stuff some fries into my belly before it was time to assemble backstage. We took some amazing photos in the cosplay lounge as well and OMG free food.
We started on this costume three days before the convention...The act. Elise tripped over the wires. I got a sword in my eye. These were all unplanned, but at least we didn't have to act out the dying part. I don't know what happened; after I hit Kaoru, all I remember was getting hit in the eye and the next moment I was on the ground with my hood off and my hands out. BUT the script also said I had to fall down in defeat and then run away as soon as White Rock Shooter came up so I did just that XD But for real instead of acting LOL
Right before Kaoru poked my eye out.
After the act we decided to just pose in the lobby and in no time we were surrounded by photographers.. I did warn you girls XD The others stayed but I left to catch up on some sleep.. the next day Koen and I arrived pretty late and my eyes were still hurting so I skipped my Yuna cosplay (I was a bit sad about that, I really wanted to take a picture with Roy's amazing Wakka). Koen, however, entertained the other visitors with his Pikachu on a leash Also, it was Anne's birthday that day! In all the commotion, I totally forgot to give you a congratulations hug T.T So sorry hunny! Took a quick stroll through the dealer room - I got a Piplup plushie, yay! - before we left to see the remaining cosplay shows and the ending ceremony. I got very angry they didn't announce in advance that we weren't allowed to film while Altima was on stage - I mean, in the lounge they even asked us if they could take a picture with us - so we had to delete the Pokemon song and the introduction of the judges as well. I was pretty upset about that since I wanted to rewatch that part and I wasn't interested in Altima at all ' But at least I got Youtube for that..
We didn't win the contest, but I am so very proud of the girls, they are already winners to me. A YEAR of preparation has gone into this with group efforts in literally the last minute. So I had bought little toy trophies and medals for everyone as a token of gratitude and to remember this day and the fun we had together Kaoru Li, Anne Moekke, Elise Jiyu Toet, Ashley Ilunaneko, Roxanne; Thank you all for being so amazing and thank you for letting me be part of this project! I hope we can do this more often in the future.
